Born in Rochester, NY and now living in Florida, Keith Hamlin has endured much to arrive at this point in his life. His Photographic career began as a kid, in the basement of his home. Bulk 35mm film was always around, large format film, box cameras, plates, bulbs, enlargers, trays, chemicals, papers, the works. But it was the negatives that were more of an attraction to his eye than the mechanics of the film. The science was all fine and dandy, but the art form of the photograph was more intriguing. There were a ton of black and white negatives, and even though a negative is hard to see in any real light, he was studying the form and structure of poses of nude art work that his father had done in years past. His Father had not only done the vast amount of photo stills, and semi-pro work, but was a video camera man for the Gannett TV CBS Affilliate in Rochester, NY. He got to soak up film editing for commercials, and real time video production, first hand. Keith also served in the Army Security Agency, then, the 2nd Armored Cavalry, and even for a month having then Capt. Tommy R Franks as commander of his company in Germany, he developed an appreciation for a variety of additional skills. Immediately after his discharge, Keith was intending to do his pennance at IU, Bloomington, Indiana, for his PhD in Physics. But a dump truck changed that all rather quickly on a spring afternoon, just 28 years ago, wiping 2 years out of his life to recover, as his Harley-Davidson Sportster was taken out from under him, and his body literally torn in two. Years later, he went on to be a 27 year career Open Heart ICU RN, even doing Flight Nursing, Trauma Nursing, and Psych work along the career, until the old motorcycle accident took it's toll yet again, and the pelvic bones were spreading. He was unable to work, stand, or sit without more medications than most of the patients were receiving. He had, though, kept an eye for Photos, and graphics. He had been working as a professional Underwater Photographer and doing undersea wildlife photos for years, with many published, and even produced Magazine graphics for Brownies Third Lung, and Halcyon Rebreathers for a period. A professional recognition came with an Honorable Mention at the very last Nikonos Shootout, in 1997, in Key Largo, FL, for the now infamous corkscrewed Moray Eel photo. He also has done quite a bit of internet work, and before the web got too big for it's own good, won an Aegis Award, highly coveted in the days, for his writing skills. Over the years, he has written some 150 sites, starting from simple notepad writing, to the more modern writing, but keeps sites streamlined, fast loading, and clean, staying away from FrontPage monstrosities. Having shot everything from Weddings to Teens, Erotic work to Sports, he remains versatile. He is also able to output the graphics to everything from a postage stamp to a Roadside Poster, or compile anything from a 12 page calender, to a 12 GigaByte compendium of every photo he has ever taken for publication into a desktop photo journal! He has had some published works in the Mens Magazines, but nothing as glamourous as Playboy, although he does aspire! Presently Keith is working with DMS Custom Choppers to showcase their fine works of motorcraft in the next months, watch the newstands for the appearance in Easyrider's, and V-Twin. |
